iPhone 17 Series Overview

Design & Display

Design

Apple is keeping their trusted design language of sleek, minimalist while striking design language, if you see an iPhone you know it's an iPhone, or an  apple product in general; Their use of premium materials has always been a major standout, however in recent years the iPhones have looked almost identical, perhaps with small charges, but this is one of the most significant redesigns in recent years. The camera setup has received a reasonable change, reminiscent of a Google pixel device while still keeping a similar design to the past years models. The display section will likely remain the same, featuring the dynamic island, basically the new design is significantly deferent and the same at the same time.

This year they will introduce a new design (competing for the thinnest phone they can, since other manufacturers are making thin cool again, such as Samsung with the S25 Edge) with the air; being one of the thinnest iPhones ever, coming in at 5.5mm.

Display sizes:

  • iPhone 17: 6.27” , OLED (LTPS)
  • Air: 6.6” , OLED (LTPS)
  • Pro: 6.3” , OLED (LTPO, 120Hz ProMotion )
  • Pro Max: 6.9” , OLED ( LTPO, 120Hz ProMotion )

Materials

Standard and Air

There seems to be a slew of rumours on the materials that will be used. The standard 17 will likely be aluminium and glass but there seems to be a toss up between what will be the air’s build material. The air may very well come with an aluminium build, considering the price point, however since it will be so thin, apple will likely want it to be made out of titanium as they need the rigidity to combat any issues created by thin design.

Moving onto the Pro, it will likely be dropping the titanium in favour of aluminium and ceramic glass build. This should make for a lighter phone, to combat the size, while also making easier to manufacture since the softer aluminium is easier to machine.

The Dynamic Island  is expected to be more functional, though the front-facing sensor placement may remain similar, with the Pro models possibly integrating under-display Face ID sensors in the future.
